The reason for high prices are the various taxes and regulatory complaince costs on everything from grower to the store shelf all adding up. The whole supply chain is over-regulated and over taxed. Supply managed producers have to buy expensive quota and the interest on that investment adds greatly to costs. Moreover, govenment recklessness has caused galloping inflation. Government is not the solution. Government is the problem

Quebec is Saputo. Just look at your dairy products. We used to have dairy products production in small towns. All the milk is produced by farmers all over and the monopoly of the milk production comes from Montreal Quebec. Why doesn’t Alberta have a milk production distribution industry? We produce it but Quebec has the industry that makes all the milk products from what the products indicate.

I’m not understanding why dairy farmers are literally pouring out collected milk? Is that not wasteful?! This is because of caps???

well i tell you what we did in small town called St.Leon manitoba, dairies have contracts to only take so much milk and anything over that we had to dump this is still is going on and you have no say on it , but what we did we gave it to a reserve close by for free instead of dumping it, no money exchanged , i tell you the milk we gave sure helped them and their children, goverment needs to get out but they want to make a buck on everything

It’s all bullshit . The WEF wants their Corporate ESG Partners to take over farmers lands to exert control over us . Sure blame the farmers- ban their use of fertilizers , now carbon tax them too.

Remember Bill Gates is now the largest owner of U.S. farmland. Nothing out the Freeland’s fat cow mouth is credible. Remember also Freeland’s smug mocking β€œ creative β€œ tactics in the illegal freezing of bank accounts in the illegal Emergencies Act. She’s fascist all the way.

I cant listen to the liberals who never answer questions but go off in another direction.

However I need to explain something about supply chain. In order for a dairy farm to sell milk in Canada they have to buy VERY expensive QUOTA. for OVER $100,000.00 per liter of milk you sell. you MUST buy this quota or you cannot sell your milk. once you have this quota, if you are short of milk, you are fined. If you ship over quota, you are fined They take your milk and take it to a cheese factory but they FINE the farmer. so many farmers would dump milk on the ground rather than be fined for over supply.

The issue Canadian dairy has is that the USA dairies do NOT have to buy quota, so their operating costs are not as high as Canadians.

IF Canada allows USA milk ( which is not tested as highly as the Canadian milk .... remember the issue the USA had with the hormones in milk causing young girls of 6 and 7 year olds to develop much faster than normal puberty) in to Canada, it makes the millions of dollars they had to pay for Quota to be worthless..

Quota can only be purchased from the dairy board of the province.

Not sure how you level the field. you cannot sell your quota back to the board, you have to wait for another farmer to buy it.

If every farmer could sell it back to the board, who profited from the sale in the first place, if they could take their money and still provide milk to the various processors (alpha, beatrice, etc. ) then the dairy farmers on both sides of the boarder would be on an equal footing, and Canadian milk prices would come down.

Lastly, be assured that when milk prices go up the farmers do NOT get more for their milk. the processors, and the board make more but it never filters down to the farmer. Note many of the large dairy farms are in Quebec and Ontario. wonder who the liberals are catering to?

Qu ebec is the largest dairy producing province in Canada, with around 360,000 dairy cows and 137 dairy manufacturing establishments. Ontario and British Columbia follow in second and third places, respectively.Jan 10

A lot of suppliers do not want to come to Canada because of our laws and ensuing costs for French product labelling.

This brings up the cost for food supply in Canada
