And the grocers will pass the buck down to the people.

This isn't going to help except once again put stolen money in the governments pocket.

Just cut the taxes!

DMH: that was my first thought also. I also wonder if the grocers do this and groceries become so costly people either don't buy it or buy as cheap as they can, will the grocers start laying off people or cutting hours?

My friend works at a food sharing place. She said they get so much meat and fish that they had to get a freezer. The people can’t afford to buy the meat so when it looks like it is going to best before date they just give it to the food bank. I don’t begrudge the people who use the food bank, but gee whiz, they have so much meat to give away that I don’t understand how they can keep charging high prices and then have to give it away. She said it is the same with breads.

It's consumers responding to the high prices. I don't know how families with children are surviving these days; it's got to be tough.

Why is everybody picking on Chrystia all the time? She gave an exceptional status report of the current situation with regards to hunger and how to deal with those greedy grocery chains. Just kidding lol. If you can't laugh then a person might start crying. I have never in my almost 68 years seen this country so screwed up, even when pierre was running the show it wasn't even close to this disaster. Can you envision Freeland and Champagne meeting with the grocery executives? I bet those people had a meeting after the meeting to say to each other what the hell was that all about? Anybody understand any of the gibberish other than raise taxes.

I have an idea. Cut the ridiculous carbon tax, stop filling the pockets of yourself and all your buddies, honestly care about Canadians, which we all know is impossible for the liberal government. Oh hey here’s another idea - step down and let someone who cares and loves Canadians and Canada run the country. Just a thought! 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😡😡😡

no one ever mentions the carbon tax when they talk about high priced groceries, does no one think that has a lot to do with high prices. of course grocers may be making profits, they won't be providing groceries if they're not so I don't get why they are the ones being targeted. and like was stated below the price will just be passed on to us. omg this government......

Competition law is a law that promotes or seeks to maintain market competition by regulating anti-competitive conduct by companies.

The history of competition law reaches back to the Roman Empire.

The Competition Act is a federal law in Canada that governs competition in the country. The act contains both criminal and civil provisions aimed at preventing anti-competitive practices in the marketplace

1. The act was recently amended on June 23, 2022, to strengthen the Competition Bureau’s ability to protect Canadian consumers, businesses, and workers from anti-competitive conduct.

2. The amendments came into effect immediately, with the exception of the changes to the criminal conspiracy provision, which increase potential fines and prohibit wage-fixing and no-poach agreements. These changes came into effect on June 23, 2023.

So basically, they are controlling competition under the guise of anti-competition to regulate no competition in the world of business, which they have no business being in.

AKA Monopolies - like CBC, Grocery Giants, Big Tech, Big Business, Big Pharma, etc.

They have ALREADY amended it, changed it, altered it, and now she is saying that what it is, isn't good enough, even though they are the ones who changed it - just last year!

Seems she is boondoggling the folks to accommodate taxing the shit out of them in the name of "protecting them."

Meanwhile, a mere $10 Billion tax-free to Toronto to help build rental properties, about the same, tax-free, to Quebec for briber....er.....housing, and billions and billions and billions to other countries for "aid."

The ticking of the clock is getting louder and louder as Canadians across the Nation realize that they are NOT as dimwitted as the Liberals make them out to be.

She's an idiot if she thinks they won't be passing that down to consumers.

She needs rehab.

Grocers are not at fault. The federal government throwing money around for corporate welfare programs and internal slush funds and money laundering is at fault. It's government who has crippled the people and caused the problems with food supply and prices.
