Jordan Peterson Weighs Legal Action After Trudeau’s Russian Funding Claim
Jordan Peterson, a conservative media personality, is considering legal action after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused him of receiving funding from the Russian state-owned media outlet RT. Trudeau made the claim during testimony at the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference, but provided no evidence. Peterson denied the accusation, stating he has never taken Russian money and found Trudeau's comments defamatory. He is contemplating a defamation lawsuit, although he acknowledges the difficulties of such legal actions. Trudeau's office has not commented on the matter. Peterson also criticized Trudeau's understanding of the issue, especially since Peterson has actively spoken against foreign interference, including by Russia.
Canada Offers Exemptions as New Tariffs on Chinese EVs and Metals Take Effect
The Canadian government is allowing businesses to request exemptions from new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) and steel and aluminum products. This relief aims to help industries adjust their supply chains. Canada introduced a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs, effective Oct. 1, and a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum, starting Oct. 22. The government will consider exceptions for companies unable to source alternatives or bound by pre-existing contracts. These tariffs follow similar U.S. measures, with Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland criticizing China's unfair trade practices and environmental standards. China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization.
